5:02 am
in emmettsburg and jessup coming in at 65. the hour-by hour forecast brings us to 75 degrees as we head into lunchtime and we will be dry. let's get a check now of the abc 2 time saver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. we are following breaking news in anne arundel county. there's a two-alarm fire right now in lothiam on bee street. one person has been taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. we, of course, will bring you the very latest as it does become available. now, as lynette mentioned, we are dealing with a lot of rain, you will want to slow down, be extra careful as you head out. fog is going to be another issue, so do expect reduced visibility. as we check in and take a live look here at the northwest corner of 695 at old court road, everything moving right along, no delays as you travel down towards 95. and as we approach other drive times, the rest of the beltway, great shape up to towson. traveling the outer loop, you are looking at an 11-minute
5:03 am
ride. 95 in white marsh going to be nice and clear as well, four minutes to travel from white marsh boulevard down to 695. that is a look at your abc 2 time saver traffic. megan, over to you. a big night for the nfl with the professional referees making their return, much to the delight of so many fans at m and t bank stadium and it was an even bigger night for the ravens who, by the way, came away with a win, and that is, of course, going to improve the 3-1 they have had so far this season. so charley crowson live this morning downtown right outside of the bank. charley, i know you're smiling p this this morning. >>reporter: big win for the ravens. who wouldn't be smiling about this, megan. but this is national news. this was a big deal last night. and who would ever imagine football fans giving the referees an ovation when they come out on the field, well, that was the case last night here at m and t bank stadium when the ravens were hosting the winless cleveland browns. after a lengthy lockout that caused the referees to not be on the field for three games, well, they finally returned
5:04 am
last night after the league announced shortly after midnight wednesday a deal had been reached for the referees to return to work immediately. and by immediately, that meant thursday night football when the ravens were playing host to those browns. and if you think about that three-game span when the replacement referees were in place, a lot of things were going on, games were going extremely longer than normal, about 3 1/2, sometimes four hours long to be exact. you had bill belichick grabbing a referee here at m and t bank stadium, this was a few nights ago when the patriots were playing the ravens. it all culminated monday night with the seahawks/packers that gave seattle the win over green bay. so as you would likely expect as the game rolled on last night, coaches and players both glad to see the referees back on the field. >> welcome back to the officials. good to have you back. these guys are really good. these guys -- the communication was good, didn't agree with every call. >>reporter: of course you didn't. >> want to know what happened on the last one, gave us the
5:05 am
extra play. hadn't seen that yet, i've heard about it. but they were excellent. >> the biggest thing is i think the game probably went a little bit smoother and, you know, a little bit more seamless and things like that, moved it along a little bit, calls were made and everything just kind of went a little bit smoother. >>reporter: by the way, there was a football game that was played last night. joe flacco who you heard right there threw for about 356 yards. he was sharp on the night, had a touchdown and a pick. an twan bolden, he had more than 100 yards receiving and torre smith carrying off of that emotional win sunday night, of course, his brother died over the weekend. he kept it going last night. he had a touchdown catch and receiving for about 97 yards. now, the ravens, they don't play again for about a week, but this weekend you can expect similar returns as those rest return -- refs return to stadiums all across the national football league. we're live downtown, charley crowson, abc 2 news.
5:06 am
>> charley, we'll check in with in just a bit. five minutes after 5:00 right now. visitation will be held today for anthony anderson. he's the man from east baltimore who died after a confrontation with baltimore city police last week. anderson had been walking home last week in east baltimore when he came into contact with several police officers. in the first initial police report that was given after his death, it said that he died because he was trying to hide drugs that he was ingesting. however, now police admit it's not true and people who say they saw that confrontation, they tell a much different story. >> he put his arms to the side and come straight up and slammed them on his neck, collar bone-like. he sit that man up. [ indiscernable ] >> well now police will only say the circumstances of this case remain under investigation. the visitation, by the way, it begins today at 10:00 a.m. at march funeral home and after
5:07 am
the funeral tomorrow morning the family is planning a march. that is going to happen from the funeral home down to the scene of that confrontation with police. a woman in anne arundel county, she's accused of trying to kill her estranged husband by hitting him with a pick-up truck. petina moorehead from shady grove has been charged with attempted murder. police say moorehead and her husband were arguing in the driveway when the woman got into her pick-up truck. that's when police say that the husband walked towards that truck and moorehead hit him and pinned him behind the truck and a parked vehicle. he is still in the hospital this morning. the future of the wrecker theater right now is going to rest in the hands of the liquor board. that's because the night spot in the heart of towson, it was the spot of trouble this past weekend. police say that a man was shot, several people were arrested wh several fights broke out at a fraternity party at that theater on york road. so next month the board can either do nothing, they can suspend or fine the place or they can pull the liquor license all together.
5:08 am

5:12 am
thanks for joining us on this friday morning. you probably know the orioles are playing the red sox tonight for the last home series. as you know, every game counts as the orioles continue their hunt for the playoffs. right now the o's are one game pack from the new york yankees and at the top of the wildcard race. tomorrow the final living legend statue will unveiled. brooks robinson, that's going to happen. that game, by the way, sold out. and, of course, don't forget about the buckle up rallies.
5:13 am
buckle up for the o's. those rallies are going on all this weekend and they want you to get pumped up and help cheer the team on. so today bank of america center downtown, there is a rally there from 11:00 to noon and south point. they're also going to be hosting one, that's today from noon until 1:00. and then tomorrow at barks which is near m and t bank stadium, the buckle up rally. that one is happening from noon until 2:00. so a lot of outdoor plans happening surrounding this game, lynette. the pressure is on. >> i know. >> hopefully it'll be nice out. >> i know. so we have the wet weather this morning, megan. but by the game i believe that we will be dry. so that's some good news that we like to hear on a friday. happy friday, by the way. let's get down to business and talk about what's going on right now on maryland's most powerful radar because we do have the wet weather that's coming down around baltimore right now. i'm going to take you on a radar tour. let's start well south of baltimore, though, around d.c. because some of you are traveling in that direction and you're going to be running into some wet weather. some heavy downpours now between silver spring and d.c.
5:14 am
all this is sliding off towards the north and east as of now. as we make our way up along i- 95, montgomery county, also howard county, around laurel, jessup, colombia, all getting in on some more moderate rain showers this morning. and then as we slide a little bit further to the north, well, we can see around towson this morning, also woodlawn and even parkville, cockiesville, all wet, the streets are wet, very damp and very slick out there, so you will want to take it easy as you head out and about. we go further off towards the north, hartford county, bel aire, getting in on some wet weather this morning. our last stop takes us down to anne arundel county, shadyside, deal, we are wet this morning. some light showers across this area. so we talk about what's going on in terms of temperatures and we had that temperature in jessup now at 65 degrees, so we are quite mild, very reminiscent of what we saw yesterday, the day before that. we're waiting for this area of high pressure to build in, but this front has been on the pesky side, very slow mover, but, of course, it's stalled out, so that's why it's not
5:15 am
going anywhere anytime soon. future trend not picking up on a whole lot for today. maybe another shower this afternoon along the eastern shore, but we work our way into lunchtime, temperature right around 77 degrees and by sunday more showers. let's get a check now of the abc 2 time saver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. as you mentioned we are dealing with a lot of rain, so the roads are going to be very slick. in addition to the rain, 're also dealing with fog, so you will want to expect reduced visibility across the region. now, if you are using the jfx to get into the city, there are no delays right now from the beltway all the way to fayette street. that stretch all together will take you just 11 minutes. here's a live look at 95 downtown at 395, everything moving right along. no problems getting through the fort mchenry tunnel or the harbor tunnel. and for those of you using 695, you're taking a live look right now in towson at delaney valley road, no problems getting up to 83 or if you are traveling the inner loop down towards 95. that's a look at your abc 2 news time saver traffic. megan, over to you. programs aimed at
